Your experience seems to mirror ours, a small 125-year-old Presbyterian church in California. Our congregation ages and dwindles; more than a few have left over differences in scriptural interpretation regarding ordination standards.

One would think that the members of the GA would realize that there is a reason for our decline, and for the growth of other churches (like Rick Warren's).

I'm not sure Warren's model is entirely sustainable either.

While some people leave PCUSA congregations over denominational theological disputes, they are a small percentage. Few people "join" or "leave" denominations today. They "join" or "leave" congregations.

There is something more systemic happening across Christianity in the USA, PCUSA being one segment, that is reshaping how the church will function in the future.
