Initially, I thought that any organization that is FOR-PROFIT ought to be taxed, religious or otherwise. because any "religious" organization that is actually earning wealth — rather than giving it away to the needy — is clearly operating like a business, not like a church/synagogue/mosque/temple. having to actually pay taxes may prevent nuts from starting cults like the "church" of scientology, since it would less wildly profitable.
