Hans Rosling spoke about this at a recent TED talk, except he arrives at a peak population of 10 billion people. One interesting take away---the religion of a country seems to have little to do with population growth.

Thanks for the link. I'll take a look. Population projections are usually done in terms of high, low, and middle. Thirty years ago I used to hear estimates of 10-11 billion, peaking at century end. More recently I see 9-9.5 billion peaking at mid-century. This analyst makes clear he is low-balling with regard to demographers but the trend keeps moving in the direction of a peak with fewer people sooner.
