You may recall that I did a post on global warming a while back. Well, here is a link at Evangelicals Environmental Network and Creation Care Magazine that cast doubts on some of my claims. It has testimony by Sir John Houghton before the US Senate.
Nailing down the truth on this topic is enormously complex, and the data changes by the moment. It is also true that nearly all of the statements for one side or the other are based on computer models, which means they are based on human assumptions. Almost as soon as one model is constructed, other scientists find gigantic holes that make them suspect. Houghton's claims are based on these models. I have gone to journals and found articles that directly contradict what Houghton says about irradiance.
Furthermore, Houghton addresses claims of consensus, and I should point out that 1,000s of scientists have signed on to a statement (see here) that opposes the idea that global warming is essentially a human-caused phenomenon. I also haven't heard why we should be concerned about a rise in temperature when we are emerging from "The Little Ice Age" of the last few centuries. (From the link just given)
Anyway, more to think about.
