"Real Wage" Slaves? is an interesting article about the median household income's rise (or lack thereof). The article points out that median income has stagnated in the last couple of years. However, if you add the cash value of benefits, which now comprise nearly one-third of compensation costs, total compensation is growing, and consumer disposable income has increased.
