I am writing this from the floor of the GAC meeting. We have completed the budget and staffing decisions for implementing the new mission work plan. The decision has been made to reduce the GAC budget by more than nine million dollars. You will likely see the budget numbers by objective if you check media outlets. (I don’t have time to type that up for you today.) I can’t share the details with you until Monday afternoon after the staff have been informed. I will have more to write then. I will tell you now that despite the short-term trauma, the changes are very positive, and there is more positive change to come.
Thank you to all of you who have been praying for the General Assembly Council these last few days! It has been a real blessing to me and others here making tough decisions.
More later.
Peace!
Presbyterian News Service listed the amounts for the 2007 and 2008 budgets, but did not show the change between this year and coming years. That might be good to know.
I am looking forward to your insights and comments on Monday.
Are you staying in Louisville for the weekend, or are back in KC?

I am back in KC and I will have a lengthy post Monday, although I don't expect to post it until after 2 pm Eastern when the official news conference is made. The numbers between the two years are not radically different. I will give detail in my post.

It sure is terrific what kind of opportunities you have had to help shape such a large organization. When you report on these kind of conferences and decisions, Mike, it just reminds me of how faithful you have been in small things so that God can use you in some of these 'big' things.
