Like that Acts verse!

Of course, if the Assembly puts justice issues at the center, there will necessarily be a little shouting... I do think of Jesus clearing the temple.

Thanks L. L.

You nearly had me spewing coffee all over my laptop when I read that verse from Acts!

Can we make the verse from Micah the "theme" of the General Counsel and Stated Clerk's offices?

Michael Kruse

As to the General Counsel...I refuse to comment on the grounds that I may incriminate myself.

Honestly, does the official PCUSA Bible have only six verses? If you had asked me before I saw this to guess the theme verse, Micah 6:8 would have been in the top three, with Galatians 3:28 and one of the synoptic versions of Jesus' "greatest commandment".

I know, I know. It's still the Word, and still good. But in practice, at least in seminary, Micah 6:8 winds up being used (perversely out of context) to justify theological indifference or outright heresy.

Denis Hancock

Excellent, Mike!

Micah 6:8 is a fine verse, and one that needs to be in everyone's consciousness -- especially the third requirement. I agree with Andy that this verse is too often trotted out to promote a particular view.

And another thing -- I don't think the three (do justice, love mercy, walk humbly) are in order of importance, yet that seems to be how many view it. I would reverse them and say that if I walk humbly with the Lord, then the first two will proceed naturally.

Michael Kruse

"...then the first two will proceed naturally."

Thanks Denis.

“Prophets are not without honor, except in their hometown, and among their own kin, and in their own house.”

Preach it, Michael!

Michael Kruse

David, why do I have Bob Dylan lyrics in my head "Everybody must get stoned!" :)

I vote for the verse from Acts . . .

Thanks for the laugh.
