Fifty years ago this week, the Russians launched Sputnik into space. Thus began human exploration of outer space. But the most compelling story of the last fifty years has to be the project to land a human being on the Moon.
Mrs. Kronicle and I went to In the Shadow of the Moon today. It is a wonderful documentary about going to the Moon, told mostly through historical clips and by the men who went there. It does a wonderful job of capturing the era and particularly excels at giving insight into the astronauts who went to the Moon. The best part of the movie is the last segment, where astronauts reflect on their missions' impact on their lives and the new lenses through which they have come to see the world. Anyone who believes scientists aren't mystical and spiritually sensitive needs to watch this movie.
I found the movie to be nostalgic, inspirational, and mystical all at the same time. If you get the chance, check it out.
