This makes sense on a practical level and I have thought about it a lot. However, I keep coming back to the question: "how does it model grace (unmerited, undeserved favor) when strings are attached to our gift, when people have to earn it?"

Micheal,
Thank you so much brother for sharing this with us all.
Thank you.
I can't wait to see what you talk about tomorrow.
In the mean time have a great week! :-)

Here's my first thought.

I think too often we define "grace" in materialistic and monetary terms. We were created for stewardship, not just to consume resources.

Simply giving resources to the poor may give aid them in consuming more in the immediate term but does it free and equip them to become stewards? Generally no. It creates dependence an atrophies stewardship abilities.

I understand grace in part to be about restoration from an existence that is less human (dominance and dependence) into one that is more human (mutual stewardship).

Thanks preacherman.
