I graduated from college 3 years ago, and this list still pretty much applies to me.

Michael W. Kruse

Every time I read these lists it reminds my of what a writer called "parochialism of the present" ... the tendency to see the things we experience in our lifetime as the beginning of things. Things that happened a year before we were born seem as distant as 100 years.

Getting older, when I look to those who are much older than I am I realize how much they were shaped by events foreign to me and the insights they have because of what they encountered. When I look to those younger I realize how much of my reality is inaccessible to them, which is either a sense of loss or celebration depending on the issues.
